NDP MLA Brenda Bailey says people in Vancouver will benefit from upgrades to not-for-profit services and programs with additional funding from B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.
“Each not-for-profit receiving this funding does invaluable work to lift up and protect our communities,” says Brenda Bailey, MLA for Vancouver-False Creek. “For example, I’ve seen first-hand the life affirming work being done for our most vulnerable Vancouverites at the Dr. Peter Centre and the Dragon Boat festival works to combat division and prejudice in our society by connecting us through culture and sport. I’m thrilled to know that with the support of these grants, they will be able to continue that work in a long-lasting way.”
With this final round of 2021-22 funding, the Community Gaming Grants capital projects program will provide $3.8 million to 51 not-for-profit organizations throughout B.C. for upgrades to community infrastructure, updated technology and new equipment. This is in addition to the $5 million capital funding for 45 not-for-profit groups announced in January 2022.
New projects funded in Vancouver include:
- British Columbia Centre for Ability Association, $69,000
- Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society, $173,001
- Canadian Lifeboat Institution Inc, $16,000
- Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, $206,506
- False Creek Rowing Club, $96,418
- Recycling Council of British Columbia, $25,000
- Rise Women’s Legal Centre, $12,098
- Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre, $10,000
Organizations that have been navigating increased service pressures during the pandemic have been prioritized in this round of funding. Many not-for-profit organizations are using these funds to make adjustments that support physical distancing and other measures to ensure services and activities meet public health and safety guidelines.
